Join us on summer school “Media Critical Thinking: An Educated and Skilled Society” ,17-19. August 2022 in Narva-Jõsuu, at the Meresuu Spa Hotel.

Sillamäe Society for Child Welfare and the British Council invite you to participate in the media literacy summer school “Media Critical Thinking: An Educated and Skilled Society” which will take place on August 17-19, 2022 in Narva-Jõsuu, at the Meresuu Spa Hotel.

The main objectives of the Summer School are to further develop media literacy skills by encouraging audiences/communities to be media co-creators, to think critically about media content and their own media habits, and to interact and collaborate with national and local media, creating an informal network for community and media exchange to feel free to express their opinions on important topics in a safe environment.

The summer school is intended for young people, community members and other target audiences and experts who are interested in modern media and the issues facing our society (presenting objective/truthful news, analysing propaganda material about the COVID 19 virus pandemic situation, the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its impact on the Estonian and Russian speaking communities).

The main themes of the autumn school:
– Disinformation, propaganda, privacy, information security and media culture.
– Media criticism (critical thinking, source analysis, analysis of media and information.
– Media production (blogging, writing articles, videos, creating digital media).
– Media behaviour habits (Media consumption habits in different age groups and reliability of media channels)
– Democratic values (Participation and freedom of expression)

By participating in the programme, together we create an independent perspective and promote professional discussion about the role of modern media in society. The development of constructive knowledge and media literacy skills will allow for more in-depth critical thinking and the prompt handling of data. The summer school will enable all participants to share their experiences and constructive ideas, and to find answers to their questions.
